Dr. Lindsey Nichols 2016-17 University Grant Program Award Recipient
Congratulations to Dr. Lindsey Nichols for being awarded a Seed Grant through the University’s Office of Research and Creative Scholarship! Dr. Nichols’ project, entitled Improving Educators’ Understanding of Rural Children’s Mental Health, seeks to improve mental health awareness, knowledge and skills training for pre- and in-service PK-12 educators. Through the course of the project, a cross-departmental group of researchers will develop new curriculum that can be specifically tailored for rural communities, including a sustainable train-the-trainers model. Dr. Nichols and her team will explore the curriculum alignment with the needs of educators who work in high-needs, rural and/or frontier schools with regard to their awareness, knowledge, and skills to assist their students in coping with mental health difficulties, and improve behavioral and academic outcomes.
