The Department of Counselor Education is proud to announce CACREP Accreditation of the Ph.D. program in Counselor Education and Counseling.

As the only doctoral program of its kind in the state, we serve master’s level clinicians (largely school counselors and mental health counselors) who wish to pursue a terminal degree focusing on advancing clinical skills, pursuing research, and developing sound pedagogy, supervision, and leadership practices. Now accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), we hold a marker of quality that positions our graduates among the top in the field, and increases the breadth and depth of our already sound applicant pool.

The accreditation site team awarded the Counselor Education Department a perfect score. The team was especially impressed with the level of faculty dedication and commitment to students, noting many examples of faculty mentorship and collaboration in top tier professional writing and presenting. Creating exciting and fulfilling training opportunities is a priority for the program. Currently, the department has an agreement with Royal Thimphu College in Bhutan, where one student is hosted for six-month periods to provide counseling services for Bhutanese students. Grounded in a strong accredited foundation, the program faculty look forward to building relationships with future doctoral students and connecting them with quality training and career opportunities.
