Academic Advising

Academic advising in Teacher Education Services is a critical component in student recruitment, retention and success. The academic advising process is a developmental and sometimes proactive process that must meet the changing needs of students through the various stages of the educational process.

Every student should receive academic advising commensurate to his or her needs. Advising should be clearly defined and communicate the roles and responsibilities of the student and the advisor. Student programs, resources and technology are used to disseminate information and improve decision-making.

Curriculum and Instruction

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction offers a focused, field-based teacher preparation program and a full range of graduate programs. Collaboration, diversity, and curricular integration are themes that guide the design and instruction of each of our programs.

Field Experiences

Field experiences are completed at different levels by all Teacher Education Program students. Field experiences provide an opportunity for pre-service teachers to interact with professionals in the field; to participate in and observe a range of students, levels, and programs; to identify and develop skills necessary for teaching; and to determine if there is commitment to the teaching profession. The field experiences help faculty evaluate the pre-service teacher's potential as a professional educator. National Council of Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) program goals and learning outcomes are used in evaluation.
